Which wax is the right one for me?

As is well known, too many choices make it difficult to make a decision. Especially when it comes to ski waxes, there is a very wide range of products on the market. We want to help you keep track and find the right wax for your needs.

  • How long should the wax last on the base?
  • Do you value environmentally friendly products?
  • How would you like to apply the wax?
  • Are you looking for a wax for racing?

How long should the wax last on the base?

If you want to benefit from optimal gliding behaviour on the slopes for as long as possible, the Optiwax Glide Tapes are the first choice. The particularly hard waxes are applied to the base with an iron or the specially developed "Race Waxer" machine from a thin paper carrier and are extremely resistant. According to the manufacturer, Optiwax offers a durability of up to 200 kilometres.

When it comes to durability, the ski wax alternative GigaGlide also scores points. Due to the water and dirt-repellent properties, the ski retains its gliding properties for much longer and only needs a refresher after 5-7 days on the slopes.

Do you value environmentally friendly products?

In this case we can recommend the following products from our portfolio:

Ski wax alternative GigaGlide

The liquid direct gliding fluid completely dispenses with environmentally harmful ingredients and is water-based. It can be used universally and can be applied in the workshop or directly by the winter sports enthusiast using the practical consumer bottles.

Reichmann HiPo wax

The biodegradable stick wax is provided with meadowfoam oil from California, which consists of over 95% long-chain, unsaturated fatty acids. This gives the wax a great depth effect, high durability in the base and excellent gliding properties. The wax is available in 4 colours for the different temperature ranges.

Holmenkol Natural Wax

Holmenkol's Natural Wax series offers various products in handy packaging that can be used directly on the slopes. The wax products are biodegradable, universally applicable and quick to use.

VOLA E-Wax

The French wax manufacturer VOLA also offers an environmentally friendly wax series that does not use fluoride and consists largely of raw materials of animal or vegetable origin. The universally applicable rod wax is available for hot waxing or rubbing in.

How would you like to apply the wax?

  • Manually with the iron

For ironing, you either need a classic rod wax or use the Optiwax Glide Tapes. Here you have the choice between a universal wax for all temperature ranges and snow types or a wax specially tailored to the temperature range.

Our recommendation:

Universal wax:

  • Holmenkol Universal bar wax
  • VOLA Universal wax

Matched to the temperature range:

  • Reichmann HiPo Wachs
  • Holmenkol Alphamix, Betamix, Ultramix
  • VOLA MX wax

  • With a waxing machine

If you have a waxing machine, you can use any rod wax, just like iron waxing.

  • Without iron or waxing machine

If you would like to apply your wax without an iron or wax machine, a hard wax or a liquid variant is ideal. Hard wax is rubbed onto the base, but does not penetrate very deeply into the base and therefore does not last as long as ironed-in wax. Liquid wax is available from all major wax manufacturers. The liquid wax can be easily spread over the base with a sponge or cloth. A new ski wax alternative is the ski wax alternative GigaGlide. GigaGlide can be spread on the base like liquid wax with a sponge or cloth and impresses with its particularly long durability of up to 7 days on the slopes.

Are you looking for a wax for racing?

When choosing the right wax, you should decide for which requirements the ski or board should be waxed. Waxes containing fluorine, which are precisely tailored to the snow conditions and temperature ranges, are still predominantly used in racing. Universal waxes, on the other hand, are suitable for recreational athletes who want to be well prepared in all slope conditions.

Our recommendations for racing:

Holmenkol Syntec Speed Liquid / Syntec Worldcup HF

The successful waxes from the World Cup with a high fluorine content are available as a liquid variant or as a wax for different temperature ranges.

VOLA Race Wax

VOLA racing waxes combine the longevity and durability of a base wax with an additive containing fluorine. This gives you optimal gliding behaviour for the racing area. The racing waxes are available in two versions with a higher and lower fluoride content for the different temperature ranges.
